I have spent 20 years in search marketing and digital strategy, working at every level of the industry: agency, platform, and client-side.
At MediaCom, part of GroupM and WPP, I led search strategy for some of the world's most recognised brands, including LEGO, Adidas, Shell, and Coca-Cola. I managed multi-million pound search budgets and built the strategies that drove growth across paid and organic channels.
I worked at Google, seeing the search ecosystem from the platform side. Understanding how Google thinks about search quality, ad relevance, and user intent gave me a perspective that few agency or client-side marketers have.
Most recently, I served as VP Search Marketing at TripAdvisor/Viator, running search strategy client-side for one of the largest travel companies in the world. I managed budgets exceeding 50M and was responsible for search-driven revenue across multiple markets.
In late 2024, I started noticing something that changed everything. Brands I had worked with for years, brands with strong Google rankings and massive content libraries, were invisible in AI answers. ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity were recommending competitors by name while these brands didn't appear at all. Worse, nobody was measuring it. Nobody even knew it was happening.
I saw the organic search collapse firsthand. Google searches ending without clicks. AI platforms answering questions directly, pulling from third-party sources like Reddit, review sites, and publishers instead of brand websites. The old rules of search were breaking down, and the brands that had invested millions in SEO were being bypassed.
That is why I launched SearchIntel. Not as a dashboard company or another agency selling tactics. I built it to answer a simple question that every brand needs answered: does AI recommend your brand, and if not, why?
